Why Do I Want to Become A Dentist?

Hello everyone! Before I go furthermore. Let me introduce and tells you a little bit about my self. Going by a boring Indonesian proverb “ Tak kenal maka tak sayang”. You have to know me before you love me. That’s it.
My Name is Debby. I am a dentistry student in Jember University. You don’t know about Jember? Oh my god, I can’t believe it. You have google maps, please go and see it. It is a beautifull place.
I am in year 2, especially in semester 4. I am not a local; I am from Central Java. I think its enough about me. Oke let’s start with the main topic about my reason going to dentistry school.
It was a classical reason. Actually I want to become a doctor. Doctor is different from dentist. But for me, it is still same. Everyone still calls me “Dokter”. Dentist is different from dental nurse and of course can’t be compared with what Indonesias call “Tukang gigi”. Maybe some of you haven’t known that.
I will tell you about what I actually learn in dentistry. There are 8 specialists : Pedodontis (SpKGA), Ortodontis (SpOrt), Endodontis (SpKG), Periodontis (SpPerio), Oral Surgery(SpBM), Prostodontis (SpPros), Oral Medicine (SpPM) and Dental Radiologist (SpRKG). I think this is  what aspirants should know before going to become a dentist. And I think it is  also what people should know before go to the dentist.
So many people ask me about “Behel” - dental braces, so you can go to Orthodontis. You can find with the name for example drg. Debby Zunta, Sp. Ort.

The second specialist dentist is Endodontic. It  focuse on salvaging of tooth cavity. For your information;  even though your tooth is remaining the root,  Endodontic can give you a new one without any extraction.
Periodontitis is concerned with tissue that support your teeth. The most you know is scaling tartar that can make your gum inflamed.
For prostodontis, you can bring your grandparents to this specialist for making denture.
Oral medicine is for treating disease like ulcer(sariawan) of the mouth. Hey don’t you think that ulcer is only a minor problem. Ulcer that last more than a month  can indicate   cancer. Ulcer also can be related to TBC.
Dental radiology is a specialist for Rontgen (radiographic) photo.
The last specialist that I like and I really want to specialize in is Oral surgery. It is make me feel like a true doctor. I like to see korean drama like ‘Descendant of the Sun.’ It looks cool. I also like to learn about the human body anatomy - about the sturcture of our bone, muscle, nerve, vein, artery. It is really enjoyable.
So you see, dentistry is not only about teeth. To become a general professional dentist, I need about 6 years. 4 years in preclinic and 2 years in clinic. I learn about all that specialist modules, but only superficailly. To acquire a dental specialist degree, I have to apply for post graduate study.
 I like my major. School in dentistry is very challenging. From what I compared between medical faculty and dentistry, the pressure in dentistry is greater. But I love what I get to know. There is no hesitation for this. Wish me luck as I go along my learning journey.

Urutan pertumbuhan gigi           Pertumbuhan gigi anak dimulai sejak masih dalam kandungan. Sejak dalam kandungan usia 5-6 bulan benih gigi mulai terbentuk. Ibu disarankan untuk mengkonsumsi kalsium yang cukup. Sering kali ibu hamil diberi tambahan tablet kalsium melalui posyandu.
